Rusty Shull Grit and Grind Award

GRIT AND GRIND AWARD

On November 15th, 2018, the University of Rio Grande Baseball family lost one of their own when Rusty Shull Jr. was tragically killed in a car accident in South Carolina.  In 2015 and 2016, the RedStorm won the Conference Tournament and advanced to the National tournament in back-to-back years, and Rusty was a part of those championships.  He was the 2016 World Series MVP, leading the Black Squad to a 4-2 series win over the Red Squad. Rusty’s work ethic was unmatched by anyone at the University of Rio Grande. In honor of Rusty, we have instituted an award that will be given annually to the player who constantly leaves it all out on the field. The “Grit and Grind” award is named to honor Rusty’s work ethic and his constant effort daily, not only on the baseball field but in the weight room. This award will forever tie Rusty to the University of Rio Grande and the baseball family.
