Hamm leads Rio women to 13th place finish at IWU

     MARION, Ind. - The University of Rio Grande women's cross country team posted a 13th place finish in Friday's Indiana Wesleyan University Twilight at the IWU Cross Country Course.
     The RedStorm finished with 353 points and had two of the top 32 finishers in the field of 213 runners.
     Taylor (Ind.) University had three of the top four finishers and won the team title with 29 points, while Grace (Ind.) College (99 pts.) and Indiana Wesleyan (111 pts.) completed the top three.
     Taylor's Jaynie Halterman won the individual title, completing the 6k course in a time of 21:58.
     Rio Grande, which was running without the services of junior Amarissa Kerns (Lancaster, OH), got its top individual showing came from freshman Laura Hamm (South Point, OH), who placed 24th in a time of 23:50.
     Also representing the RedStorm were senior Mackenzie McCarthy (Akron, OH), who was 32nd after crossing in 24:09; redshirt junior Grace Forrest (Woodstock, OH), who placed 84th in a time 25:28; freshman Kylie Gilmore (Ironton, OH), who placed 150th in 27:22; and freshman Rebecca Spohn (New Concord, OH), who was 187th after crossing in 29:24.
     Rio Grande is slated to return to action on Sept. 20 at the All-Ohio XC Challenge in Cedarville, OH.
