Rio's Bebout finishes 6th at MSC Tournament

     BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Kara Bebout provided the University of Rio Grande with its only placeholder finish during Friday's Mid-South Conference Women's Wrestling Championship at Ephraim White Gymnasium.
     Bebout, one of three athletes representing the RedStorm in their first post-season tourney, finished sixth at 145 pounds.
     Bebout, a sophomore from Mechanicsburg, Ohio posted a 12-10 decision over Siena Heights University's Phoenix Waters in her opening match before being pinned a 1:30 of her quarterfinal round bout in the championship bracket by Lindsey Wilson's Lexi Ritchie.
     After receiving a bye in round two of the consolation bracket, Bebout upended Uriah Peters-Gutierrez of Montreat College by technical fall, leading 12-1 at 4:46.
     Bebout then fell victim to a technical fall against Alivia Ming from the University of the Cumberlands in the consolation bracket semifinals, losing 11-0 at the 2:33 mark, before dropping an 8-4 decision to Campbellsville's Leilani Martinez in the fifth-place match.
     Also representing Rio Grande in the tourney was freshman Haley Williams (Mason, OH) in the 110-pound division and freshman Annalis Ortez-Pierce (Portland, OR) at 131 pounds.
Williams lost by fall to Indiana Tech's Tehani Soares at 1:51 of her opening match and, after receiving a bye in round two of the consolation bracket, she lost by technical fall to Allison Hancher of Indiana Tech after falling behind 10-0 at the 2:40 mark.
     Ortez-Pierce began the day with a loss by technical fall to Life University's Sarah Savidge after trailing 10-0 just 33 seconds into their bout before being pinned by Montreat's Anna Skoda at 44 seconds of their consolation round one match.
     As a team, Rio Grande finished 10th among the 12 competing schools with the 7.5 points accumulated by Bebout.
     Life University won the team crown with 221.5 points, while Cumberlands was second with 159 points and Lindsey Wilson was third with 146 points.
