Rio's Alvarado 4th, Ratcliff 6th at Eagle Madness

     MARIETTA, Ga. - The University of Rio Grande women's wrestling team had a pair of top six performances in Saturday's Eagle Madness Open hosted by Life University.
     Angie Alvarado had the RedStorm's top showing, posting a 5-2 record and finishing fourth while wrestling unattached in the 117-pound bracket.
     Kami Ratcliff, also wrestling unattached, went 3-2 and took sixth place at 160 pounds.
     Alvarado, a freshman from Lima, Peru started her day with a 10-0 technical fall win over Alexis Deagle of Marymount University before posting a 10-4 decision over Shahreen Gulacha from Life University.
     Alvarado lost by fall at 1:06 of her quarterfinal match with Life University's Salyna Shotwell, but then rebounded with a trio of victories - a 13-2 technical fall triumph over Jillian Ellis of St. Andrews, a win by fall at 2:40 over Emma Bauknight (Unattached) and a 6-1 decision over Life's Brooke French in the semifinal round of the consolation bracket.
     Her day ended with a 10-0 technical fall loss to Karissa Turnwall from Emmanuel in the third-place match.
     Ratcliff's tourney run began with a loss by fall to Life's Raven Cook at 0:42, but then turned to the positive with three straight victories in the consolation bracket.
     She defeated Laney Rhodes of St. Andrews by fall at 0:58, then posted a 10-0 technical fall victory over Savannah Pitts of Huntingdon and a pin of Montreat's Nicole Lewis at 4:00.
     Ratcliff, a freshman from Belleville, Ill., lost by fall at 1:33 to Huntingdon's Arieana Bacon in their consolation semifinal match.
     Two other Rio grapplers posted a pair of wins in their respective weight classes.
     Freshman Gabriela Flores-Bonilla (Indianapolis, OH) went 2-2 in the 117-pound division, while freshman Annalis Ortez (Portland, OR) did the same at 131 pounds.
     Flores-Bonilla won by fall at 1:22 over Madison Addcock of Marymount University before suffering a 10-0 technical fall loss to Shammilka Miranda from the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.).
     She rebounded with a win by fall at 2:55 over Ruby Guerrero of Hastings (Neb.) before dropping a 10-0 technical fall decision to Emma Bauknight, who was wrestling unattached.
     Ortez opened by pinning Angelina Knepp of Huntingdon at 2:40, before losing by fall at 2:29 to Lindsey Wilson's Sydney Bridenstine.
     She rebounded with a win by fall over Tassie Hatch from Hastings at 2:10, but then lost by fall at 1:32 to Life's Estefany Garcia.
     Rio Grande picked up one more victory among its four remaining wrestlers.
     Freshman Mercedes Tellechea (Indianapolis, IN) pinned Emily Harper of Brewton Parker College at 0:3 of their 207-pound match before dropping each of her next two matches.
     Freshman Vanessa Rechterman (Xenia, OH) and sophomore Kara Bebout (Mechanicsburg, OH) both went 0-2 at 145 pounds, while freshman Jessica Edwards (Harrison, OH) lost by fall in each of her matches in the 207-pound division.
     Rio Grande returns to action on Nov. 21 when the program makes its home debut in a dual with Lourdes University. Start time is set for 7 p.m. at the Newt Oliver Arena.
