FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Amanda Rarick had a pair of big outings at the net to lead the University of Rio Grande women's volleyball team to a pair of straight sets wins, Friday evening, in the opening round of the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament hosted by Indiana Tech University at the Schaefer Center.
The RedStorm began the day with a 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 victory over Indiana University Northwest before notching a 25-19, 25-20, 25-18 triumph over Lourdes (Ohio) University.
The wins left head coach Billina Donaldson's club at 10-3 for the season.
Rarick, a senior from Canal Winchester, Ohio, had 14 kills and just four errors in 27 attacks against IU Northwest, while tallying 10 kills and only two errors in 22 swings against Lourdes.
Rarick also had two solo blocks against IU Northwest, while juniors Elle McLoughlin (Zanesville, OH) and junior Olivia Smith (Bainbridge, OH) had a team-high 29 assists and 12 digs, respectively.
McLoughlin also had four service aces for Rio, which finished with a .157 attack percentage (38 kills, 20 errors, 115 attacks).
IU Northwest hit just .067 for the match (29 kills, 22 errors, 105 swings).
Erica Packwood had seven kills in a losing cause, while Josephine Mulligan had 18 assists to go along with 10 digs.
Briah Strezo had 15 digs for IUN, while Eva Everett had 11 of her own and Karly Jevert had one solo block and two block assists.
In the win over Lourdes, McLoughlin had 24 assists, sophomore Jenna Harrison (Gallipolis, OH) had 17 digs and senior Jordan Brooks (Reynoldsburg OH) had two solo blocks and one block assist.
Seniors Sofia Otero Marrero (Vega Baja, P.R.) and Avery Huntzinger (Canal Winchester, OH) had two service aces each for the RedStorm.
Lourdes finished the day with two more attack errors (22) than kills (20) and had a -.019 attack percentage.
Katey Stakolich and Maddie White had five kills each for the Gray Wolves, while Rania Pavlidi totaled 11 assists and two service aces. Stakolich also had two service aces.
Emma Coffey led Lourdes with 19 digs and Alex Pak had two solo blocks.
Rio Grande will wrap up play in the two-day event on Saturday against Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) and host Indiana Tech.
