RedStorm women notch notable finishes at MU Classic

     HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Kylie Montgomery, Emily Duncan and Megan Diven all had a pair of top 10 finishes to lead the University of Rio Grande women's indoor track and field team at Marshall University's Marshall Alumni Classic, Saturday afternoon, at the Chris Cline Athletic Complex.
     Montgomery, a freshman from Coal Grove, Ohio, placed fifth in the 60-meter dash with a new personal-best time of 8.13 and was eighth in the 200-meter dash after crossing in 27.29.
     Duncan, a sophomore from Chesapeake, Ohio, was fourth in the high jump with a personal-best effort of 1.55m, while placing sixth in the long jump with a leap of 4.94m.
     Diven, a junior from Marion, Ohio, placed fifth in the shot put and ninth in the weight throw with tosses of 10.58m and 11.26m, respectively.
     Rio Grande had five other top 10 performances individually.
     Sophomore Laura Hamm (South Point, OH) took fourth place in the mile after crossing in a time of 5:25.26, while junior Amarissa Kerns (Lancaster, OH) was fifth in the 3,000-meter run with a new personal-best mark of 10:34.30 and senior Kendra Grooms (West Union, OH) placed fifth in the high jump after clearing 1.50m.
     Rio freshman Niara Beverly-Akin (Columbus, OH), who was competing Unattached, placed sixth in the 400-meter run (1:08.66) and ninth in the long jump (4.38m).
     The RedStorm's 4x400 relay squad - composed of Montgomery, Grooms, Hamm and senior Jayden Roach (Baltimore, OH) - finished second with a time of 4:10.42, missing the school record in the event by one second.
     The meet, which included NCAA Division I schools Marshall University and Morehead State, as well as a number NCAA Division II and NAIA schools, was not team scored.
     Rio Grande redshirt junior Grace Forrest (Woodstock, OH) also competed in the USATF 20k Open Racewalk in Santee, Calif. on Sunday and finished in 10th place with a time of 1:57.25 in the co-ed event. Her time was fifth-fastest among the females in the race.
     Rio Grande is set to return to action on Friday at the Youngstown State University Invitational.
