
Rio's Forrest smashes school record at indoor opener

RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande women's track & field team got its indoor season off to a successful start with notable performances at three different meets on Friday afternoon.
The most high-profile showing came at the Warrior Indoor Invitational hosted by Indiana Tech University where redshirt junior Grace Forrest (Woodstock, OH) hit the "A" qualifying standard for the NAIA National Championship and established a new school record in the 3,000-meter race walk, finishing second in a time of 15:04.
Forrest shattered the previous school record of 15:42 set by Niki Worsham.
Junior Amarissa Kerns (Lancaster, OH) finished 10th in the 5,000-meter run at the GVSU Holiday Open, hosted by Grand Valley State University at the Laker Turf Building in Allendale, Mich.
Kerns posted a time of 17:56.82.
The RedStorm's 4x400 relay unit - comprised of freshman Kylie Montgomery (Coal Grove, OH), senior Kendra Grooms (West Union, OH), senior Jayden Roach (Baltimore, OH) and junior Paris DeBord (Chillicothe, OH) - missed a school record by just two seconds, placing eighth in the event with a time of 4:11.60 at the YSU Indoor Track and Field Icebreaker hosted by Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio.
Also cracking the top 10 in Youngstown was junior Megan Diven (Marion, OH), who finished eighth in the shot put with a heave covering 34'9.5".
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Marshall University Classic in Huntington, W.Va.
