Rio women blanked in regular season finale

     EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Oakland City University snapped a scoreless tie early in the second half and nailed down a 1-0 win over the University of Rio Grande, Saturday afternoon, in River States Conference women's soccer action at the Goebel Sports Complex.
     The host Mighty Oaks upped their record to 13-2-2 overall and 9-0-1 with the win and will be the top seed in the six-team RSC Championship, which gets underway on Wednesday.
     Rio Grande finished its regular season slate at 8-5-5 overall and 6-3-1 against league foes with the loss.
     The RedStorm will be the No. 5 seed in the conference tournament and will face fourth-seeded Indiana University East on Wednesday, at 6 p.m., at Eaton (Ohio) High School.
     Wednesday's winner will travel to Oakland City for next Saturday's semifinals.
     Rio Grande managed just two shots - one in each half by senior Carmen Morris (Lancaster, OH) - but was still in a scoreless draw until OCU's Molly Loughton scored off of a touch by Sara Espinosa just under 6-1/2 minutes into the second half.
     Oakland City finished with a 12-2 edge in shots overall, a 7-2 advantage in shots on frame and had six of the eight corner kick chances in the contest.
     Alicia Garwood notched the clean sheet effort in goal for the Mighty Oaks.
     Senior Alba Vilades Marin (Barcelona, Spain) had five saves in a losing cause for the RedStorm.
