Bearcats pull away in second half, drops Rio

     OWENSBORO, Ky. - Four different Brescia University players scored goals, including three in the second half, as the Bearcats pulled away for a 4-1 win over the University of Rio Grande, Saturday afternoon, in River States Conference women's soccer action at Kamuf Park.
     The loss left the RedStorm at 3-3-5 overall and 1-1-1 in league play.
     Brescia improved to 8-2 overall and 3-0 against RSC foes.
     The Bearcats led just 1-0 at the break thanks to a goal by Evangalene Farfan - off an assist by Kaja Zupanic - with 23:25 left before the intermission.
     The hosts lowered the boom, though, with three more markers after the intermission.
     Zupanic assisted on a goal by Allana Colen Porto - her ninth tally of the season - just 1:25 into the second stanza to make it 2-0.
     Two more goals in a span of just over 3-1/2 minutes later in the half put the win on ice.
     Lillian Garcia scored off of a touch by Geneva Hann with 21:59 left to play and Ana Victorica scored her ninth goal of the year off of a dual assist by Catriona Gray and Sydney Dunn with 18:18 remaining to push the lead to 4-0.
     Rio Grande avoided a shutout when first-year senior Azyiah Williams (Ripley, OH) scored her first collegiate goal with 13:55 showing on the clock.
     The lopsided loss came despite the RedStorm enjoying a 24-14 edge in shots overall and an 11-10 advantage in shots on frame.
     Brescia keeper Laura Thompson had 10 saves in the win.
     Rio senior net-minder Alba Vilades Marin (Barcelona, Spain) had six stops in a losing cause.
     The RedStorm return to action on Saturday when they host Indiana University Columbus in a 4 p.m. kickoff at Evan E. Davis Field.
