Mighty Oaks take down RedStorm women

     RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Camilla Bedin scored a pair of goals, while Macey Woolcock had a goal and two assists to lead Oakland City University past the University of Rio Grande, 4-2, Saturday afternoon, in River States Conference women's soccer action at Evan E. Davis Field.
     Jana Mueller also had a goal and an assist for the visiting Mighty Oaks, who improved to 13-4 overall and 9-0 in league play with the win.
     Oakland City had already secured the RSC's regular season crown and the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament with a win over Indiana University East on Thursday night.
     The Oaks' win had also locked Rio Grande (8-6-3 overall, 5-1-3 RSC) into the tourney's No. 2 seed, rendering Saturday's matchup meaningless.
     Both teams receive byes into the semifinal round.
     Oakland City enjoyed a 2-0 halftime lead, scoring both of its first half markers over a span of just under seven minutes.
     Mueller assisted on Woolcock's goal with 22:59 left before halftime and then scored her goal on a penalty kick with 16:07 remaining before intermission.
     The Mighty Oaks accounted for all nine first half shot attempts and continued the trend in the second half by outshooting the RedStorm, 13-4.
     Bedin put the win on ice with her two goals - both assisted by Woolcock - just over three minutes apart. The first came with 32:43 left to play and the other with 29:40 remaining
     Rio Grande avoided the shutout on a pair of late goals by junior Saskia Vos (Sydney, Australia).
     Vos found the back of the net off of a crossing pass from junior Jitske De Muijnk (Nijmegen, The Netherlands) with 13:39 left and then scored on a free kick from about 40 yards out with 2:22 remaining.
     In addition to its commanding advantage in total shot attempts, Oakland City also had an 8-4 cushion in shots on frame and was responsible for both of the corner kick chances in the contest.
     Yaiza Ramos had two saves for the Mighty Oaks.
     Senior Alba Vilades Marin (Barcelona, Spain) had four stops in the loss for the RedStorm.
     Rio Grande will host the survivor of Wednesday's quarterfinal between IU East and Shawnee State in Saturday's semifinals.
     Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
