RedStorm trio honored by OCSA

     WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association has recognized a pair of University of Rio Grande women's soccer standouts to its 2023 All-Ohio Division II and NAIA team, while another was named to All-Ohio Academic squad.
     Amora Albano and Hannah Halstead were among those named to the 15-player All-Ohio team, while Abi Seals was among those on the All-Ohio Academic list.
     All three started each of the 18 games played by the RedStom, which finished 8-5-5 under first-year head coach Brooke Perkins after playing IU Kokomo to a scoreless draw and losing 4-2 in penalty kicks to the Cougars in the River States Conference Tournament championship game.
     Albano, a freshman forward from Albany, Ohio, finished with a team-best 12 goals and 28 points. Her 12 goals tied for third among the league leaders.
     Albano was the only freshman named to the squad.
     Halstead, a sophomore from Delaware, Ohio, was regarded as one of the RedStorm's top defenders. Rio allowed one goal or less in nine of its 18 contests.
     Both Albano and Halstead were named to the All-RSC First Team.
     Seals, a junior nursing major from Chillicothe, Ohio picked up her second academic recognition after also being named to the RSC Scholar-Athlete team.
     In order to be nominated for the OCSA's Academic All-Ohio Team, the student-athlete must be be a junior or senior in good academic standing at the institution, have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and be a starter and/or significant contributor to the team's success.
     On the field, Seals was credited with one assist this season.
     The OCSA represents all Collegiate Soccer programs in Ohio. The OCSA is one of the oldest state Collegiate Coaching Associations in the US.
