MARION, Ind. - Host Indiana Wesleyan University spotted the University of Rio Grande an early lead before roaring back to post a 4-1 win over the RedStorm, Wednesday evening, in non-conference women's soccer action at Wildcat Field.
The 11th-ranked Wildcats pushed their record to 5-1-2 with the victory.
Rio Grande dropped to 0-4 with the loss.
The RedStorm grabbed a 1-0 advantage just 5:01 into the match when sophomore Jitske De Muijnk (Nymegen, Netherlands) scored off of a direct kick following an Indiana Wesleyan foul.
Unfortunately, the shot proved to be the only one that Rio would manage in the contest.
The Wildcats finished with a 19-1 edge in shots overall and an 11-1 cushion in shots on frame, scoring twice in each half - with goals by four different players - to earn the victory.
Ashley Townsend scored the equalizer for IWU just over three minutes after the Rio goal off an assist by Mallory Krueger, while Sydney Brown's marker off an assist from Jackie Norris with 19:23 left before the intermission put the hosts in front to stay.
Krueger also had the assist on a goal by Alyssa Hamann which pushed the lead to 3-1 just under 13 minutes into the second half, while Abbey Drahnak scored off of a pass from Taylor Archbold with 20:27 remaining to set the final score.
Avery Sluss picked up the win in goal for IWU, which also had all seven corner kick opportunities in the match.
Senior Morgan Nutter (Ashville, OH) had seven saves in goal for the RedStorm.
Rio Grande returns to action on Saturday evening when it hosts Georgetown (Ky.) College at Evan E. Davis Field.
Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
