
Rio women close fall slate with 3rd place finish

McDERMOTT, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande women's golf team posted a third-place finish in Friday's Shawnee State Fall Invitational at the Elks Country Club.
The RedStorm finished at 88-over par 376 in their final event of the fall season, 19 shots behind tournament winner Georgetown (Ky.) College. Host Shawnee State University took second place at 78-over 366.
Rio Grande's best individual score came from sophomore Maddi Meadows (Gallipolis, OH), who earned a spot on the all-tournament team by tying for fourth place at 16-over par 88.
Georgetown's Holly Holton grabbed medalist honors with a 7-over par round of 79.
Also among the RedStorm contingent was freshman Katherine McGrath (Columbus, OH), who was part of a three-way tie for seventh place at 20-over par 92; senior Molly Fitzwater (Gallipolis, OH), who placed 12th at 25-over 97; freshman Kimmi Aubrey (Wellston, OH), who tied for 13th at 27-over par 99; and freshman Emma Hammons (Gallipolis, OH), who was 17th at 33-over 105.
Rio's Natalie Shriner and Avery Minton completed in the tourney as individuals.
Shriner, a junior from Thornville, Ohio was 18th at 34-over par 106 and Minton - a senior from Gallipolis, Ohio - finished 25th at 44-over 116.
