
RedStorm finish runner-up at OCU

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande women's golf team failed to maintain their first round lead, but still managed a runner-up finish following Tuesday's final round of the Ohio Christian University Fall Invitational at the Pickaway Country Club.
The RedStorm enjoyed a one shot lead over Indiana Tech after Monday's first round, but finished 16 strokes behind the Warriors following Tuesday's action.
Head coach Lauren Lee's squad, which carded a 48-over par 336 on Monday, ballooned to 62-over 350 on Tuesday to finish at 110-over par 686.
Indiana Tech soared to the top of the five-team field by shooting a final round 45-over 333 and finishing at 94-over par 670.
Mount Vernon Nazarene University posted the best team score on Tuesday at 37-over 325 and narrowly missed passing Rio for second place, tallying a tourney total of 113-over 689.
Individually, host Ohio Christian's Tristan Wilson took medalist honors in the 28-player field by finishing at 15-over par 159. She topped Indiana Tech's Andrea Aizpurua by one stroke and MVNU's Mary Weisburn by two shots.
Rio's best individual showing came from sophomore Maddi Meadows (Gallipolis, OH), who grabbed fifth place at 20-over par 164. She took a one-shot lead over Wilson into Tuesday's final round.
Also representing the RedStorm in the event was senior Molly Fitzwater (Gallipolis, OH), who was eighth at 22-over 166; freshman Katherine McGrath (Columbus, OH), who tied for 10th place at 31-over par 175; freshman Emma Hammons (Gallipolis, OH), who finished tied for 13th at 37-over 181; and freshman Kimmi Aubrey (Wellston, OH), who placed 22nd at 65-over par 209.
Rio Grande returns to action next Monday and Tuesday at the River States Conference Fall Preview in Daniels, W.Va.
