Rio women finish 8th in season opener

     ANGOLA, Ind. - The University of Rio Grande women's golf team opened the Fall portion of their 2024-25 campaign by finishing eighth in the 13-team Trine University Kickoff Classic at Zollner Golf Course.
     The RedStorm finished with a 111-over par team total of 399.
     Trine's "A" team won the event after finishing at 32-over 320, while Indiana University East was second at 329 and Trine "B" was third at 340.
     Kayleigh Agugliaro from Trine "A" took medalist honors by carding a 5-over par 77 and finishing one shot ahead of her teammate Grace Dubec.
     Rio Grande's top finishers were sophomore Maddi Meadows (Gallipolis, OH) and senior Molly Fitzwater (Gallipolis, OH), who tied for 35th place in the 63-player field at 23-over par 95.
     Also representing the RedStorm was freshman Katherine McGrath (Columbus, OH), who finished 47th at 31-over 103; freshman Kimmi Aubrey (Wellston, OH), who was 50th at 34-over 106; and senior Avery Minton (Gallipolis, OH), who placed 60th at 58-over 130.
     Two other players from Rio Grande competed as individuals. Freshman Emma Hammons (Gallipolis, OH) was 56th at 47-over 119 and junior Natalie Shriner (Thornville, OH) was 59th at 57-over 129.
     Rio Grande is scheduled to be back in action this weekend in the IU East Fall Invitational, which is set for Friday and Saturday.
