RedStorm women finish 14th at ITC Sectionals

     SMYRNA, Tenn. - The University of Rio Grande women's bowling team posted a 14th place finish in the 2025 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championship Sectional Qualifier, which wrapped up its weekend run on Sunday at the Smyrna Bowling Center.
     The RedStorm, who were 16th at the halfway point of the event, finished with 11,110 pins over their 64 rounds of baker play.
     The top four teams in the 20-team field advanced to the ITC Nationals, which are slated for April 16-19 in Las Vegas.
     Jacksonville State University finished first with 13,030 pins, while Savannah College of Art and Design was a distant second with 12,596 pins. Maryville University (12,521) and Stephen F. Austin University (12,488) rounded out the list of national qualifiers.
     Three of Rio Grande's bowlers were part of the singles' sectional qualifier prior to the start of team competition.
     Senior Caity Moody (Xenia, OH) had the RedStorm's best showing among the 143 total participants by finishing 52nd with 1,148 pins over the course of six games.
     Also representing Rio in singles play was freshman Lina Fernandez (Mechanicsburg, PA), who was 83rd with 1,074 pins, and sophomore Julie Lemaster (Chillicothe, OH), who placed 123rd with 1,005 pins toppled.
     Moody had Rio's top individual game, rolling a 202 in round two.
     The top overall score came from Jacksonville State's Melia Mitskavich, who finished with 1,394 pins.
     The top five finishers advanced to the ISC National Championship.
