
Fernandez posts top finish for RedStorm at Bowlero Classic

MARIETTA, Ga. - The University of Rio Grande women's bowling team finished 13th among 16 competing schools in the Bowlero Southern Classic, which wrapped up on Sunday at Bowlero Marietta.
The RedStorm finished with 8,441 pins over six rounds of team play and 16 rounds of baker action.
The University of Pikeville took the team title with 10,123 pins, while Savannah College of Art and Design (9,985) and Milligan University (9,327) rounded out the top three.
Brianna Rogers from the University of Pikeville won the individual crown with 1,356 pins over six games.
Rio Grande's top showing came from freshman Lina Fernandez (Mechanicsburg, PA), who placed 34th in the field of 117 bowlers with 1,064 pins over six rounds for an average of 177.3. She also had Rio's single-game high with a 215 in rounds two and six.
Also competing for the RedStorm was senior Caity Moody (Xenia, OH), who was 36th 1,041 pins over six games; sophomore Jaelyn Hughes (Indian Lake, OH), who finished 52nd with 980 pins over six games; sophomore Julie Lemaster (Chillicothe, OH), who was 55th with 955 pins in six rounds; and sophomore Payton Goodman (Cardington, OH), who toppled 879 pins over six games to finish 61st.
Rio Grande is slated to return to action at the Ohio Bowling Conference Tournament No. 3 on Nov. 16 in Columbus, Ohio.
