Halstead leads Rio women to best-ever Tier-1 finish

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The University of Rio Grande women's bowling team got a championship performance from Hannah Halstead and had their most impressive performance as a group in program history in the 2023 Roto Grip Keystone Classic, which concluded Thursday at the Haja Rose Bowl.
Halstead, a sophomore from Delaware, Ohio, finished first among the 111 participants in the event with 1,106 pins and a 221.2 average. She was also responsible for the RedStorm's single-game high with a 235 in her opening round.
Halstead was also recognized for rolling the highest 3-game series in the tourney, with a 652.
As a team, Rio Grande finished fifth with 8,021 pins, the best finish in the program's history for a Tier-1 event. The program also will receive a $200 scholarship check for its fifth-place finish.
The University of Pikeville had the top figure among the 17 competing schools with 8,280 pins, edging runner-up Milligan (Tenn.) University by one pin. Indiana Tech took third place with 8,154 pins.
The tournament consisted of five team games and 20 rounds of baker play.
Also representing Rio Grande was senior Sydney Dickson (Newark, OH), who finished 12th with 933 pins in five games; senior Caitlyn Moody (Xenia, OH), who placed 28th with 864 pins over five rounds; freshman Julianna Lemaster (Chillicothe, OH), who was 31st with 855 pins in five games; and freshman Payton Goodman (Cardington, OH), who was 44th after taking down 822 pins in five games.
Rio Grande returns to action on Jan. 20 at the Ohio Bowling Conference Tournament No. 4 in Columbus.
