WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - A delayed start due to the lack of an official didn't derail fourth-ranked University of the Cumberlands.
The Patriots celebrated their Senior Night in grand fashion, cruising to a 55-0 win over the University of Rio Grande, Wednesday night, in a Mid-South Conference men's wrestling dual at the UC Volleyball Gym.
Cumberlands ran its dual record to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the MSC with the win.
Rio Grande dropped to 1-6 overall in dual matches and 1-2 against league foes.
The RedStorm forfeited matches in the 125-pound and 133-pound divisions to 16th-ranked Matteo Vargo and 7th-ranked Chandlar Akins, respectively, while also dropping matches to six ranked foes in the remaining eight divisions.
Sophomore Philip Balis (Leroy, WV) lost by fall to No. 8 Gage Hudson at 2:02 of their 141-pound bout, while freshman Ben Sloan (Ironton, OH) was pinned by fourth-ranked Jace Luchau at the 1:26 mark of their 149-pound match.
At 157 pounds, senior Kaylin Foust (Charlotte, NC) was pinned at 2:00 by Derrick Bannister and senior Mitchell Freeman (Point Pleasant, WV) dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 6-ranked Turner Black at 165 pounds.
Sophomore Pate Eastin (Granger, IN) lost by fall at 2:49 to 10th-ranked Dylan Preston in the 174-pound match, while junior Ashton Simison (Enon, OH) came up on the short end of a 15-2 major decision to TJ Huber.
The night ended with freshman Gary Reno (Hillsboro, IN) being pinned at 1:06 of his 197-pound bout with No. 19-ranked Greyson Stevens and senior Michael Peneski (Port Washington, NY) losing by fall at 1:31 of his 285-pound match with 13th-ranked Austin Silva.
Rio Grande returns to action next Tuesday with another MSC dual against Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn.
Match time is set for 7 p.m. EST.
