MARION, Ind. - University of Rio Grande graduate senior AJ Gruttadauro posted an All-American finish in the men's 5,000-meter race walk during Thursday's action at the 72nd NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University.
Gruttadauro, a native of Brockport N.Y., placed fifth in the event with a time of 22:28.09. The top eight finishers earned All-American status.
The All-American performance was the fifth of Gruttadauro's career, who ran previously at Spring Arbor (Mich.) University and West Virginia University-Tech.
It was also Rio Grande's second All-American finish in as many days after Tyler Jenkins posted a seventh-place showing in the 10,000-meter run on Wednesday night.
The RedStorm's other representative in Thursday's race - freshman Zach Whitley (Wheelersburg, OH) - finished 18th in the field of 28 participants with a personal-best time of 26:48.95.
"AJ ws in the lead with a mile to go and Zach is just a freshman," said Rio Grande head coach Matt Paxton. "I think things look really good moving forward."
