MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - University of Rio Grande men's soccer standouts Rafael Kawata and Matheus de Campos have been recognized as the River States Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
League officials made the announcement on Monday.
In a game that determined the RSC's regular season title, Kawata was the best player on the field.
The sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil scored two goals and assisted on a third, carrying the RedStorm to a 5-0 win over Oakland City. He scored the first goal of the afternoon, getting credit for the game-winner in the final RSC Match of the Week.
Even with Rio Grande pulling away from the Mighty Oaks in the defacto RSC regular season championship game, de Campos did his part on the other end of the field.
The senior from Brasilia, Brazil stopped all three shots that came his way to earn a clean sheet.
