COLUMBUS, Ind. - Three different players scored goals and David Palade had a pair of assists as the University of Rio Grande posted a 3-0 win over Indiana University Columbus, Thursday night, in River States Conference men's soccer action at Blackwell Park.
The RedStorm improved to 5-4-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference with a fourth consecutive victory.
The Crimson Pride fell to 4-7-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the RSC with the loss.
Senior Joe McInnes (Airdrie, Scotland), freshman Estevao Goncalves (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and sophomore Jevon Shuriah (Toll Gate, Jamaica) all found the back of the net for head coach Scott Morrissey's Rio squad.
McInnes gave the RedStorm the only marker it would need, scoring unassisted with 21:15 left before halftime.
Goncalves made it 2-0 just under five minutes into the second stanza, scoring off of a touch by Palade - a freshman from Constanta, Romania.
Shuriah tallied his marker with 12:51 left to play thanks to a dual assist from Palade and senior Leonardo Gama (Salvador, Brazil).
Rio Grande outshot its host, 10-3 overall and 7-1 on frame. The RedStorm also had all 11 corner kicks in the contest.
Senior keeper Matheus de Campos (Brasilia, Brazil) did not record a save in his clean sheet effort for Rio.
Harris Weltz had four saves in the loss for the Crimson Pride.
Rio Grande returns to action Saturday morning when it hosts West Virginia University Tech in a battle of traditional RSC powers.
Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. at Evan E. Davis Field.
