
Rio men finish 6th in Patriot Invite

LONDON, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande men's golf team posted a sixth-place finish in the Patriot Invite hosted by the University of the Cumberlands.
The nine-team, 54-hole tournament wrapped up Tuesday at the Crooked Creek Golf Club.
The RedStorm, who were in fifth place after the opening round before slipping to sixth place following round two and staying there the rest of the way, finished at 86-over par 950.
Lindsey Wilson won the tourney at 17-over par 881, while Campbellsville University was a distant second at 35-over 899. Host Cumberlands finished third at 37-over 901.
Cayden Chambers of Bethel (Tenn.) and Lindsey Wilson's Toby White tied for medalist honors by finishing at even par 216.
Rio Grande's top showing in the field of 54 golfers came from junior Rodrigo Portilla (Sevilla, Spain), who tied for 13th place at 11-over par 227. He moved 10 positions by carding an even-par 72 over the final 18 holes.
Also representing the RedStorm was sophomore Juan Carlos Gil Perez (Malaga, Spain), who was part of a three-way tie for 19th place at 14-over 230; senior Nicolas Gonzalez (Medellin, Colombia), who tied for 32 place at 22-over par 238; freshman Ryan Ladermilt (Racine, OH), who tied for 45th place at 39-over 255; and freshman Conner Roe (Gallipolis, OH), who was 54th at 70-over par 286.
Rio Grande returns to varsity action April 18-19 at the UNOH Spring Invitational in Lima, Ohio.
