
Rio men open Spring slate with 12th-place finish

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The University of Rio Grande men's golf team opened the 2025 portion of their schedule with a 12th place finish in the 14-team Kona Ice Keiser Cup hosted by Keiser University.
The three-day, 54-hole tournament wrapped up Tuesday at the Okeeheelee GCS.
The RedStorm finished at 89-over par 941,
Head coach Lauren Lee's squad was in 10th place following the first round of the event, but slipped into 12th place after the second day of action and remained there following the final round of play.
Keiser University's A entry won the team title at 20-over par 872, edging its "B" team by two strokes. Palm Beach Atlantic was third at 23-over 875.
Individually, Nateeshvar Anatha Ganesh from the Keiser "B" team grabbed medalist honors by finishing at 6-under par 207. He defeated William Brun Solum of the Keiser "A" team by one shot.
Ganesh and Solum were the only two players in the field of 80 golfers to finish under par.
Rio Grande's best finish came from senior Nicolas Gonzalez (Medellin, Colombia), who was part of a four-way tie for 33rd place at 17-over par 230. He was 4-over par in the opening round and 3-over par in the final round, but suffered a disastrous +10 in the second of his three rounds.
Also representing the RedStorm was junior Rodrigo Portilla (Sevilla, Spain), who was one of six players tied for 39th place at 19-over 232; sophomore Juan Carlos Gil Perez (Malaga, Spain), who was part of a trio tied for 49th place at 22-over 235; sophomore Jorge Del Solar (Cochabamba, Bolivia), who was one of three place tied for 66th place at 34-over 247; and sophomore Connor Ingels (New Have, WV), who placed 72nd with a 43-over 256.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action on Friday and Saturday, March 21 and 22, at the Lawrence Tech University Spring Invite in Shepherdsville, Ky.
