RedStorm men finish 9th at Lindsey Wilson

     COLUMBIA, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande men's golf team posted a ninth-place finish in the Blue Raider Invite hosted by Lindsey Wilson College at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson.
     The two-day event wrapped up on Tuesday.
     The RedStorm finished the tourney at 47-over par 615.
     Host Lindsey Wilson easily won the team competition by finishing with a 30-under par total of 538. Lawrence Tech (Mich.) was a distant second at 1-over 569, while Cumberland (Tenn.) University was third at 11-over par 579.
     Lindsey Wilson's Rio Saigal grabbed medalist honors, finishing at 9-under par 133.
     Rio Grande's top individual outing came from freshman Rodrigo Portilla (Sevilla, Spain), who finished in a tie for 11th place at even-par 142.
     Also representing the RedStorm in the 69-player field was freshman Nicolas Gonzalez (Medellin, Columbia), who was part of a three-way tie for 46th place at 13-over 155; freshman Kameron Maple (Oak Hill, OH), who was among three players tied for 51st place at 15-over par 157; freshman Jacob Smeeks (Belpre, OH), who was part of a three-way tie for 56th place at 19-over par 161; and senior Jensen Anderson (Racine, OH), who was one of a trio of players tied for 59th place at 20-over 162.
     Rio Grande will return to action on Saturday and Sunday when its "B" group participates in the Klash in Kentucky at Perry Park, Ky.
     The next varsity match is slated for Monday and Tuesday, March 27-28, with the St. Andrews University Invitational at the Deercroft Golf Course in Wagram, N.C.
