GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande Bass Fishing team opened the 2025 portion of its schedule over the weekend at the MLF Abu Garcia College Fishing Presented by YETI event on Kentucky-Barkley Lakes Presented by Columbia PFG.
"While we didn't get the results we were seeking, we have a great group of anglers in our program who are determined to learn from our experiences and opportunities and grow together to become better anglers and teammates, both on and off the water," said head coach Tom Sutton.
The team of senior Cody Brumfield (Galliplis, OH) and freshman Cameron Burgess (Oxford, OH) led the way for the RedStorm in the 236-boat field, finishing in 72nd place with 11.01 lbs and just one fish shy of a tournament limit.
The duo of senior Austin Shields (Albany, OH) and freshman Tyler Eggers (Jackson, OH) finished 162nd with one fish for 3.03 lb., while the team of freshman Noah Cremeens (Gallipolis, OH) and freshman Coen Davis (Jackson, OH) also represented Rio Grande in the event.
Gage King and Banks Shaw from the University of North Alabama won the event with a five-bass limit weighing 21 pounds and eight ounces. The victory earned the Lions' bass club $2,000 and a qualification into the 2026 MLF College Fishing National Championship.
The RedStorm will return to action Saturday and Sunday at the Pickwick Slam in Florence, Ala.
