Rio Grande Sports Information
SANDUSKY, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande's bass fishing team produced a program first last month - a tournament victory.
The duo of senior Cody Brumfield (Patriot, OH) and sophomore Alex McCarty (Bloomingburg, OH) captured first place in the Karl's Fishing & Outdoors event as part of the MCBC (Mid-Northern College Bass Coalition) Tournament Trail.
The event was hosted by the Ohio State University Fishing Team.
Brumfield and McCarty hauled in 10.33 lbs. worth of catch to take the top spot.
The victory also qualifies Rio Fishing for the MCBC Championship, which is slated for October 14-15, on Lake St. Clair in Detroit, Mich.
The event also saw junior Austin Shields (Albany, OH) and sophomore Kayleigh Osborne (Wellston, OH) finish in sixth place and take the Big Bass Award.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action Sept. 23-24 at the Association of Collegiate Anglers (ACA) Big Bass Bash sponsored by Bass Pro Shops.
