RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Benjamin Cam Orellana scored two goals and assisted on two others, leading the University of Rio Grande in a 10-0 thrashing of Bluefield (Va.) University, Tuesday night, in non-conference men's soccer action at Evn E. Davis Field.
Senior Vilius Labutis (Dublin, Ireland) and sophomore Altar Sayar (Kreuzlingen, Switzerland) also scored two goals each, while sophomore Justin Jimenez (Alajuela, Costa Rica) had two assists of his own for the RedStorm.
Bluefield slipped to 0-2 with the loss.
Rio Grande (2-0-1), ranked No. 3 in the NAIA coaches' Top 25 poll, jumped to a 3-0 halftime lead before cutting loose in the second half with seven goals on its 13 shots.
The RedStorm finished with a 24-3 advantage in overall shots, a 19-2 edge in shots on goal and had all nine corner kick chances in the contest.
Junior Diego Martinez (Santiago, Chile) scored what proved to be the only goal Rio would need, taking a crossing pass from the left wing by senior Joe McInnes (Airdrie, Scotland) and pushing a shot past Bluefield starting net-minder Jake Mendoza with 24:11 left in the first half.
Cam Orellana, a senior from Santiago, Chile, scored just over seven minutes later on a direct kick from 25 yards out before assisting on a marker by freshman Rafael Kawata (Sao Paulo, Brazil) with 5:51 left in the half to make it 3-0.
McInnes pushed the lead to 4-0 a little less than four minutes into the second half, scoring off an assist by Jimenez, while Sayar got the first of his two markers - also off an assist by Jimenez - with 31:37 remaining in the game.
Sayar tacked on an unassisted score just over nine minutes later to make it 6-0, while Labutis scored off of a pass from Cam Orellana with 14:20 left to play to make it 7-0.
Freshman Keagan Daniels (Rio Grande, OH) scored the first goal of his collegiate career off of a touch by Kawata with 8:04 remaining before the RedStorm scored twice in a span of 45 seconds inside the final 2:59 of the match to set the final score.
Cam Orellana scored the first of the final two goals via a feed from sophomore Marti Puigsegur Calvo (Barcelona, Spain), while Labutis scored unassisted with 2:14 remaining.
Graduate senior Matheus de Campos (Brasilia, Brazil) stopped two shots in goal for Rio Grande before giving way to senior Oton Merin Torro (Concentaina, Spain), who did not face a shot over the final 45 minutes.
Mendoza had eight saves for Rams, while Duamel Jimenez had one save over the final 7:43 for the visitors.
Rio Grande returns to action on Saturday night at the University of the Cumberlands. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Williamsburg, Ky.
