
Rio men finish 7th at OBC No. 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande men's bowling team posted a seventh-place finish at the Ohio Bowling Conference No. 2 Tournament, Saturday, at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace.
As a team, the RedStorm took down a total of 6,951 pins in the event, which featured four rounds of team play and 16 baker rounds.
The University of Northwestern Ohio captured the team title with 8,061 pins, while Walsh University finished second with 7,505 pins and St. Vincent College took third place with 7,369 pins.
Rio Grande's top individual finish in the field of 152 bowlers came from junior Daniel Gross (Cincinnati, OH), who finished in 10th place with 894 pins over four rounds for an average of 223.5. He was also responsible for the team's single-game high with a 256 in round two.
Others who represented the RedStorm in the event included sophomore Hunter Bolender (Mount Orab, OH), who finished 71st after taking down 731 pins over four rounds for an average of 182.8; freshman Shawn Woodyard (Jackson, OH), who placed 81st after toppling 695 pins over four games for an average of 173.8; senior Reece Collins (Columbus, OH), who took 83rd place with 682 pins over four games for an average of 170.5; freshman Alex Coffelt (Canton, OH), who was 98th with 565 pins over three games for an average of 188.3; and junior Jalin Ragland (Columbus, OH), who finished in 150th place with 132 pins in his only game.
Muskingum University's Evan Thro took top individual honors with 1,021 pins in four games for an average of 255.3.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action Nov. 5-6 at the Brunswick Southern in Marietta, Ga.
